Evaluation of Immunochmatographic Test for Diagnosis of Falciparum Malaria
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study has evaluated Immunochromatographic test (ICT) as a new diagnostic technique, recently introduced in the Sudan for the detection of Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) parasite. A total of one hundred blood samples were examined using ICT in comparison with the traditional microscopic method. All samples were found to be positive for P. falciparum when stained by Giemsa stain and examined microscopically. The result revealed 98 asexual stages and 2 sexual stages of P. falciparum were observed. However, 98 of these blood samples were found to be positive for P. falciparum when examined by the ICT. On the other hand, statistical analysis showed a high degree of sensitivity and specificity of the ICT (P<0.05) compared to microscopical method utilized traditionally in detection of malaria parasites in patients blood.

Background: Malaria is still account for 200 million cases annually. Microscopy is the gold standard technique for malaria parasites detection. PCR-based techniques can detect malaria infections with high sensitivity. The study aimed to evaluate the sensitivity of microscopy technique in the detection of P. falciparum and P. vivax, using monoplex real-time PCR, Gezira State, Central Sudan. Met...

Introduction: Examination of Geimsa stained blood smears is the main method of malaria diagnosis in our country, however, accuracy of results is largely depended on the skill and laboratory conditions. This study was designed and carried out to assess the current situation and to determine the effectiveness and quality improvement of malaria diagnosis program. Methods: In this analytical s...
متن کاملMolecular Evidence on Changing Pattern of Mixed Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax Infections during Year-Round Transmission of Malaria in Chahbahar, Iran
Mixed malaria infections, Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax, are suspected to occur at a greater frequency than is detected by conventional light microscopy. In order to determine the year round pattern of transmission and the frequency of mixed infections in malaria endemic area, we carried out a prospective comparison of diagnosis by conventional light microscopy and nested PCR in Chahbahar ...

Rapid, accurate and affordable methods are needed for the diagnosis of malaria. Reported here is an evaluation of a new immunochromatographic strip, the PATH Falciparum Malaria IC Strip, which is impregnated with an immobilized IgM monoclonal antibody that binds to the HRP-II antigen of Plasmodium falciparum. In contrast to other commercially available kits marketed for the rapid diagnosis of f...

Malaria is a protozoal disease. It has four species (P. Falciparum, P. Vivax, P. Ovale, P. Malariae) that each produces disease in humans. Malaria is transmitted by female Anopheles bite to human. It can also be transmitted by blood transfusion or contaminated needle. Iran is divided to 3 zones for transmission of malaria: 1- north of Zagros mountain, 2- south and south-west, 3- so...
